Vasant Kaiwar teaches at the Department of History - Duke University. His areas of interest are Modern South Asia, Marxist theory, postcolonialism and postmodernism.

Along with his wife, Vasant Kaiwar founded and edited major journals, such as South Asia Bulletin (1981-1993) and Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East (1993-2002).
