TRABOULSI Fawaz

Fawaz Traboulsi is a Lebanese historian and writer. He has studied at the American University of Beirut and at the School of Oriental Studies in London. He defended a PHD at the University of Paris 8 on Identities and cross solidarities in contemporary Lebanon conflicts. At the present time, he is professor at the Lebanese American University (Beirut). He was the co-founder of the Organization of Communist Action in Lebanon in 1970 and had close relations with socialist leaders of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen). He wrote several books, among them:   A History of Modern Lebanon (London, Ann Arbor : Pluto Press, 2007), Sourat al-fatat bil-lawn al-ahmar (The image of the young man in red ; published in Beirut  by Riad El-Rayyes 1997), Wou’oud ‘Adan (The promises of Aden ; Beirut, Riad El-Rayyes, 2000), Dhofar. Chahâdat min zamân al-thawra (Dhofar. Testimonies of the revolutionary period; Beirut, Riad El-Rayyes, 2004). Fawaz Traboulsi has published an anthology of the writings of the Lebanese intellectual, Fares Chidiaq and has published the history of the Lebanese city Machghara, where his family come from (Qamar Machghara ; Beirut, Riad El-Rayyes, 2004). He has just published the 12 volumes of the genealogical dictionary of the Near East families from Iskandar al-Maalouf. Fawaz Traboulsi has also translated into Arabic books written by Frederic Jameson.
